Independent Study in an International Setting is supervised by the HMS Societies and the HMS Scholars in Medicine Office. It is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to expand their clinical and/or research learning in an international setting. The Course Director and Advisory Deans of each Society work with each student to adequately prepare them before, during and after the overseas experience. In order to request credit, both the Society Advisory Dean and the Course Director must approve the request for the independent study. In order to receive credit, the Course Director must approve the documentation submitted by the student upon completion of the experience. The final documentation must include the following: a written report that follows the template provided by the Scholars in Medicine Office; a log of hours spent in the experience (i.e. complete page 2 of the SOC900 form) signed by the on-site supervisor/mentor; and an evaluation from that same on-site supervisor/mentor. These will serve as the basis for the student´┐Żs evaluation and receipt of credit.
