Children's Orthopedics

Description: This course involves interactions with the pediatric orthopaedic service at Children's Hospital. The department includes divisions of sports medicine, hand surgery, spine surgery, and neuromuscular programs. The curriculum can be altered to the needs of the advanced student with exposure to out patient clinical care, in patient care, surgical procedures, and attendance at core curriculum lectures. The student will integrate into the department service with contact with attendings, residents and fellows. On call will be one night per week.
Incorporation of Basic Science Content and Evidence-Based Medicine:
Basic science lectures are presented weekly as well as journal reviews
Grade Criteria:
Honors with Distinction: Consistent attendance; mastering of skills to evaluate and diagnosed pediatric patients; mastering of treatment skills of splinting casting, outstanding presentation, acquisition of elementary surgical skills Honors: Consistent attendance; mastering of skills to evaluate and diagnose pediatric patients; acquisition of treatment skills of splinting casting, excellent presentation. Satisfactory: Consistent attendance; acquisition of skills to evaluate and diagnose pediatric patients, satisfactory presentation International students are graded "satisfactory/unsatisfactory" Unsatisfactory: Inconsistent attendance; lack of interest; lack of skills to evaluate and diagnose pediatric patients; poor presentation
